Acacia Lodge #1
Ancient, Accepted and Esoteric Freemasons
A.·. A.·. & E.·. F.·.

THE GRAND ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE

The Grand Architect of the Universe (TGAOTU) in some Masonic jurisdictions is known as The Great Architect of the Universe (TGAOTU).  The Grand Architect of the Universe is the creator of all that is.  There is nothing that was not created by the Grand Architect of the Universe according the Esoteric Freemasonry.  While the Grand Lodge refers to Divinity as The Grand Architect of the Universe in some of their rituals, the words "God" and "the Divine" are also used from time to time.

Just as there is no consensus as to what the initials TGAOTU actually mean, there exists no universally accepted word for the Divine.  Therefore, in all of our rituals, in every Masonic Body under the jurisdiction of Ancient, Accepted and Esoteric Freemasons, individual Masons are encouraged to use whatever name is most comfortable for them in addressing TGAOTU.  In all Masonic Bodies under their  jurisdiction, brother and sister Masons are encouraged to find an acceptable name for divinity by consensus.  If no consensus can be reached, then the presiding officer of that body must make the final decision according to tradition.

Since it's inception, Acacia Lodge #1 A.·.A.·.& E.·.F.·.  has used the following names when speaking of or to divinity: 1) the Divine, 2) God, 3) Oh Lord my God, and 4) The Grand Architect of the Universe.  There is no special meaning given to any of these names.  They are intended to address TGAOTU reverently and respectfully with honor.  Any brother or sister using the rituals of this Lodge may substitute any appropriate name for the Divine according to their normal practices.
