The Provinces of Leicester and Rutland had been previously united in a single Province since 1792, although no Provincial Grand Master had ever been installed. This changed when Most Worshipful Brother Edmund Tylney, Earl Tylney of Castlemaine, was appointed as the first Provincial Grand Master for the combined Provinces on April 11th, 1810.
The Provincial Grand Lodge has been continuously active since its formation in 1810. It has witnessed many changes over the years, including the addition of two other lodges to its original three lodges in 1879 and the opening of a new lodge room in 1895.
